Description:
Our birds (even males) are docile and broody. We choose to breed Blue/Black/Splash to increase flock immunity and provide stronger genetic diversity to our customers. Many who offer the Black Copper Marans eggs or chicks, are using inbred parentage, and the quality of the bird suffers over a couple generations. These are heritage birds and we breed them as such; not just an egg in a basket!
The eggs from the blue hens are copper in color, and the black hens put out varieties of chocolate and speckles including a bloom egg once a week which will include mauve, purple, or dark brown, chocolate appearances in color.
Our Copper Marans Roosters are from Alchemist Farm, and we have three strains of Marans hens which are each a unique cross of Bev Davis/Wade Jean/Little Peddler parentage. Please keep in mind that the egg color is darkest at the onset of a laying cycle and gradually gets lighter throughout the cycle. The bloom that creates the mauve and pink to purple eggs, occurs 1-2 times weekly depending on the hen. Our Marans lay 3-6 eggs per week on average.
