These are NOT the commercial red birds you get from the farm stores and hatcheries.  These birds are a heritage breed, with much darker feathers, more meat and more consistency from generation to generation. Our birds are always bred with the APA Standard of Perfection in mind first.  Rhode Island Reds are great foragers and do well both a free range, or coop setting, they lay 200-300 large brown eggs per year, generally starting at 4-6 months of age. Males weigh approximately 8 lbs, and females 6 lbs, so they work well if you're looking for a breed that can lay a prolific amount of farm fresh eggs, as well as be put to use as a table bird.
